Trevor eats. He eats. He has an appetite. Riley looks like a twig or a stick. Trevor looks like a football line man. We were at my girl friend's house, with her diabetic daughter. My girl friend is watching Trevor eat a big hamburger with cheese. She had to tell him to put the second patty back as there was only enough for everyone to have one. He ate the bean salad. She served up a huge dessert of raspberry/berry shortcake with heaping whip cream. Trevor cleaned his plate. He then said he was very thirsty and proceeded to drink a big glass of water. He tells her this is his second hamburger today. He had one at lunch.
She watches him eat and thinks there has got to be something wrong with that child. She is kind of a worrier, but Trevor is impressive to watch as he can feed himself enormous quantities of food and water.
She asks if she can test his blood sugar. she just can't believe with that hunger and thirst that there couldn't possibly be something wrong. I am as curious as she is. Trevor agrees to be poked and tested with the diabetic kit. My girlfriend starts laughing as she sees the results. Trevor tested 79 after just eating at least 3000 calories of food in one meal. That is what a good healthy pancreas will do for you. She had anticipated 180 or higher she said. It blew her away that the number came back barely budged as if he hadn't eaten anything recently. I laughed. That is my Trevor, "grossly normal." That is what his tests always come back, thank goodness. I like grossly normal. I could use some more normal in my life.
