As the school year winds to a close the pressure is on to finish assignments. For my teen ager the goal is to put as little effort out as possible. Tom had to have words with Riley. The teacher comes to study and only a portion of Riley's work is done.
I have watched him skype his friends for hours, watch TV, and do everything but work on his assignments. Now the assignments are due and he is trying to whip out an essay on the Battle of Gettysburg in two hours before the teacher comes today. The work is sub standard at best.
Riley is now mad and pouting because I told him a bibliography has to include the publisher and Author, not just the title of the books. He has to open the books and find that information. We have one week left of this year. Riley only studies three classes science, math, and humanities. He has not read the assigned book in humanities. He read an new series he discovered about sorcerers and wizards. Well, its a good thing the teacher agreed to summer school. Three weeks of school in August may be just what the boy deserves.
I do need to talk to the school in the fall to see what the best way to miss two months of a school year may be. The Trimester breaks fall with one month in one semester and one month in another of course. I had been hopeful we could just miss a semester, but I don't think it will be that easy. December 2 is end of semester one. I think we will be starting BMT at the end of October. Perhaps we could schedule to start at Thanksgiving break so most of the time missed the kids would be out of school anyway. I don't know if these numbers will hold that well.
My understanding is that the meds should let his body continue to produce at the levels it wants to produce. Which isn't good enough for normalcy right now, but it is good enough to get around for a while with caution and care. 50,000 platelets is only critical Aplastic Anemia not Acute Critical, after all. So, he is much better than he was.
Well, I guess I can cut him a little slack. At least give him a hug, and tell him even though he is mucking up his grades, I still love him. Now he just needs to stop pouting and get the project done right. It is a piece of cake for Riley if he would just put his mind to it. It is a fun project after all, cherry picked because we are going to be there this summer.

This is the time where you don't suck up. "I" know this from experience and "you" know that "I" know this. Cut "him" off from the computer and the TV. "I" really mean this and "you" know that "I" know what "I'm" talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
